John Taylor

English pirate associated with Olivier Levasseur and the 1721 capture of the Portuguese treasure ship Nossa Senhora do Cabo.

PiratePiracy

Taylor operated within the pirate networks of the Indian Ocean during the later Golden Age of Piracy. Surviving accounts connect him with crews that had earlier sailed under Edward England. Leadership titles vary between sources because pirate companies frequently changed commanders and ships through mutiny, election and capture.

In 1721 Taylor and Olivier Levasseur were involved in the capture of the Portuguese treasure ship Nossa Senhora do Cabo near Réunion. The ship was returning from Goa and had suffered storm damage. Its cargo included high-value property from Portuguese India, precious stones, gold and church valuables.

Taylor adds a second major participant to the Nossa Senhora do Cabo Event and gives the Indian Ocean piracy cluster another stable Rogue node. Future ship, crew and treasure-history pages can attach to him without rewriting the Event.

This structure also protects future cross-linking. New articles can point to one canonical ID instead of repeating free-text names, and reverse links can be generated without changing the meaning of the original event. Media remains separately gated: no AI reconstruction is used as a substitute for a rights-cleared historical image.
