Veselin Raičević

Veselin Raičević, known as Meda, is best understood through the leadership crisis that followed the 1997 disappearance of his brother Vojislav “Voja Amerikanac” Raičević. Investigative reporting and Serbian police-source accounts place him inside the Group America network, but the public record is much stronger on his association and role in the post-Voja circle than on any final criminal judgment for the murders often attributed to that era.

After Voja’s disappearance

OCCRP’s reconstruction of Group America describes an informant account in which Veselin convened a meeting after his brother disappeared and the organization sought to identify suspected traitors and retaliate. That account became one of the foundations for later descriptions of a violent revenge campaign.

This material must be read carefully. It documents what investigators and an informant said about the group; it does not by itself prove that Veselin ordered every killing later attached to his name in tabloids and police files. the archive therefore records the revenge narrative as a documented allegation rather than a murder conviction.

Place in the organization

Contemporary Serbian reporting has repeatedly described Veselin as a significant figure in the organization after Voja’s disappearance. A later 2017 drug case involving Goran Jović, Miodrag Nikolić, Zoran Simić and Vlatko Filiposki was reported by police-source media as connected to the circle around Veselin; the court record itself proves the drug convictions of those defendants but does not adjudicate Veselin’s historical command role.

Why he matters

Meda is a key cross-linking profile because he ties the unresolved violence of the late 1990s to the later drug-trafficking phase of Group America. His page should function as a cautious evidentiary hub: confirmed family and organizational links at the top, documented police/informant claims below, and no unsupported “convicted killer” status.
