Slavko Ćuruvija

Slavko Ćuruvija was a Serbian journalist and publisher murdered in Belgrade on 11 April 1999. His case belongs in the archive because it intersects directly with the State Security network already represented by several profiles, but the final judicial outcome requires unusually careful wording.

Murder

Ćuruvija was shot outside his home in central Belgrade during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. His killing became one of Serbia’s most prominent unresolved journalist-murder cases.

Long prosecution

Years later, four former State Security employees — Radomir Marković, Milan Radonjić, Miroslav Kurak and Ratko Romić — were prosecuted. Earlier trial judgments included convictions, but those outcomes did not survive the appellate process.

Final 2024 acquittals

In February 2024, the Belgrade Court of Appeal announced final acquittals for all four defendants, finding that the prosecution allegations had not been proven beyond the required standard. the archive must therefore never display those men as convicted of Ćuruvija’s murder.
