Nenad Opačić was the best-known figure of the Veternik criminal group in Novi Sad. Unlike many underworld profiles built largely from police descriptions, his page has a clear judicial core: a major organized-drug-trafficking conviction and a final sentence of fourteen years.
Veternik group
The Special Court found that Opačić led a criminal group involved in organized distribution of heroin and other narcotics. Reporting on the case also described a supply relationship with the Zemun clan, particularly through Dušan Spasojević.
Sentence
Opačić initially received a fifteen-year sentence. The Supreme Court later reduced it to fourteen years. The status bar therefore shows fourteen years as the final sentence, with the earlier fifteen-year term preserved only in legal history.
Links to the Zemun network
Police and court reporting connected the Veternik group with the Zemun clan through drug supply and other criminal contacts. These links should be represented as documented relationships, not as a claim that the two organizations were identical.
Murder in 2015
While serving his sentence and using authorized leave outside prison, Opačić and his wife Jasmina were shot dead outside their building in Novi Sad. His death gives the profile a separate Event candidate and closes the biography with a documented date, place and manner of death.
Death
Nenad Opačić died on 28 February 2015 in Novi Sad, Serbia. The documented cause of death was murdered.
