Duško Maričić, widely known as Gumar, was a senior JSO figure whose convictions place him directly inside the network prosecuted for political violence at the end of the 1990s and in 2000. Courts ultimately imposed a 30-year sentence in the Ibar Highway case and a 30-year term in the Stambolić/Budva case.
JSO career
Maričić rose within the Special Operations Unit and was part of the command environment around Milorad Ulemek. The JSO’s combination of military training, secrecy and institutional protection made its later role in criminal prosecutions especially consequential.
Ibar Highway sentence
The final Ibar Highway judgment confirmed 30 years for Maričić. The ruling belongs to the same final sentencing structure that imposed 40 years on Marković, Ulemek, Ilić and Berček and 35 years on Bujošević.
Stambolić/Budva
Maričić was also convicted in the case covering Stambolić’s murder and the Budva attempt on Drašković. The Supreme Court reduced an earlier maximum term to 30 years.
JSO mutiny prosecution
Years later, Maričić was prosecuted with other former JSO members over the 2001 unit protest described by prosecutors as an armed mutiny. The defendants in that case were ultimately acquitted. That acquittal is a separate legal outcome and does not affect Maričić’s existing convictions.
Graph role
Maričić is a central bridge between JSO organizational history, political-assassination cases and the later mutiny trial. His status bar now shows the operative 30-year sentence directly.

Status and record
The structured life-status field is living. This administrative value should change only when a reliable current source supports an update. The current-status field is serving time.
Source record
The Master package currently attaches these sources to the profile: – Potvrđena presuda za Ibarsku magistralu — RTS, Tier 1. – Optužnica protiv trojice bivših pripadnika JSO — RTS, Tier 1. – Vrhovni sud – slučaj Stambolić i Budva — Vreme, Tier 1. – Pripadnici JSO pravosnažno oslobođeni optužbi za pobunu — RTS, Tier 1.
Claim-level source references remain in the structured data so later audits can trace evidence rather than relying on a generic bibliography.
Evidence and editorial boundaries
For living subjects especially, legal status and allegations require dated evidence. Future expansion should come from stronger records, court material, archives or newly processed canonical entities rather than generalized crime lore.
How this profile fits the archive
The source package currently includes Potvrđena presuda za Ibarsku magistralu; Optužnica protiv trojice bivših pripadnika JSO; Vrhovni sud – slučaj Stambolić i Budva; Pripadnici JSO pravosnažno oslobođeni optužbi za pobunu. Those records define the safe editorial boundary for this version of the page. Unknown dates and unresolved associations remain explicit because a missing fact is a research task, not permission to speculate.
Research state
This depth pass expands the page from structured evidence already present in the Master. The next meaningful improvement should be a stronger primary source, a dated event, a verified legal-status change, a prison record, or a newly processed Book, Screen or Organization entity that creates a legitimate reverse link.
Media remains a separate completion gate. A portrait should be attached only after source page, provenance and reuse status are checked. Until then, text can be complete while media remains pending.
Archive discipline
A stable canonical Person page remains useful even when some biography is unresolved. It prevents duplicate identities and gives future cases, organizations, events, books and screen works one consistent target. Depth should come from verified edges and source-backed chronology, not filler.
Evidence notes already stored
– Documented relationship in the cited public record. – Documented relationship in the cited public record.
These notes remain leads for future research and are not expanded beyond their current evidentiary wording.
Future audit trigger
Return this profile to research when a new source materially changes chronology, status or network position. Add the structured fact first and update prose second so the article and knowledge graph stay synchronized. Portrait completion remains separately gated.
Current evidence inventory
The canonical summary currently states: Former JSO officer, known as Gumar, serving a 30-year prison sentence after convictions in the Ibar Highway and Stambolić/Budva cases.

Editorial boundary
A precise but limited biography is preferable to a longer profile built from association or repetition. The structured record remains the source of truth, and prose follows it.
