A federal racketeering and murder prosecution centered on Mexican Mafia member Michael Lerma and his Pomona-area enterprise. Evidence at trial described extortion of Latino street gangs, prison and street narcotics trafficking, robberies and violence. In 2025 a jury convicted Lerma, Carlos Gonzalez, Juan Sanchez and Jose Valencia Gonzalez in connection with the June 2020 murder of an inmate at MDC Los Angeles. All four were sentenced to life in federal prison in March 2026.
